Spotflow: Building Reliable Cross- Border Payments Infrastructure for Africa

Spotflow was built to solve one of the hardest problems facing businesses operating across Africa: collecting payments reliably across borders. With 54 countries and over 40 currencies, Africa’s payments landscape is deeply fragmented, creating significant barriers to scale for companies with growing demand.

This challenge became clear through the work of Pave Investments, a family-owned investment holding company that provides capital, access, and strategic support to ventures creating opportunities for African talent and businesses globally. Through years of working with startup founders attempting to expand within and beyond Africa, a consistent pattern emerged: payments, not demand, were the primary constraint to growth.

Expanding into new African markets required navigating licensing, compliance, FX, and settlement processes that often took up to 12 months, delaying revenue and increasing operational risk. Traditional banks were reluctant to support exchange and settlement at scale due to FX volatility, while alternative providers lacked reliability and coverage.

Spotflow was created to close that gap.

Launched in 2024, Spotflow is a Merchant of Record (MoR) that simplifies global collections and payments for businesses operating in and across Africa. By handling licensing, compliance, exchange, and settlement, Spotflow enables companies to expand into new markets faster, increase transaction volume, and operate without the operational burden typically associated with cross-border payments.

At its core, Spotflow is designed to make expansion straightforward. The focus is on speed, reliability, and scale, allowing businesses to collect payments efficiently while Spotflow manages the underlying financial and regulatory complexity.

The Spotflow Team

Spotflow is led by a team with deep, hands-on experience across traditional fiat systems, foreign exchange markets, payments infrastructure, and large-scale financial operations in both African and global contexts.

Kwamena Afful, Managing Director, brings over a decade of experience investing in, advising, and building payments and financial services companies across Africa, the United States, and other global markets. He has been closely involved with leading African fintechs including Paystack, Flutterwave, LemFi, BuyCoins, and Cowrywise, with direct exposure to how large payment businesses manage FX, settlement, liquidity, and regulatory complexity at scale. His background in strategy, investments, and cross-border structuring informs Spotflow’s approach to building infrastructure that works within real-world financial constraints.

Kweku Afful, Director, has more than 20 years of experience across accounting, finance, and business development, with deep operational knowledge of FX markets and traditional financial systems. He is the founder of Peswa, a platform focused on risk management and credit infrastructure for African businesses, and the co-founder of Link Exchange, a network of physical FX bureaus operating across multiple African cities. This experience provides first-hand insight into liquidity management, pricing, compliance, and day-to-day FX operations in fragmented markets.

Ato Bentsi-Enchill, Head of Operations, brings over eight years of experience across venture capital, investment advisory, and startup operations. He has worked closely with early-stage and scaling fintechs on fundraising, investor relations, and operational systems, giving him a practical understanding of how payment and treasury infrastructure must function reliably under regulatory, capital, and execution constraints.

Korede Victor Adebayo, Head of Product, has over nine years of experience leading the development of complex financial and infrastructure products. He focuses on translating real operational needs into scalable systems that bridge traditional financial rails and blockchain-based settlement.

Adedeji Adeloye, Engineering Lead, brings deep technical expertise in building secure, high-performance payment systems, APIs, and distributed infrastructure in regulated environments, ensuring Spotflow’s exchange and settlement platform meets institutional standards for reliability, security, and correctness.
